VRTV Points
How Do VRTV Points Work?
VRTV Ranking Methodology
The VRTV Rankings measure team performance across competitive VR esports.Teams earn VRTV Points through league, tournament and LAN performances. Events are categorised into tiers, with higher-profile competitions awarding more points. Stronger placements result in larger point gains, while older results gradually decay to ensure rankings reflect current form rather than historical success.By combining event prestige, placement and recency, the VRTV Rankings aim to provide an accurate representation of the strongest teams in VR esports today.
Points Distribution
Teams earn VRTV Points based on their final placement in recognised leagues, tournaments and LAN events. The number of points awarded depends on both the team's finishing position and the tier of the event. Higher-tier competitions award more points, while stronger placements receive greater rewards.Only final placements are used when calculating VRTV Points. Teams do not earn additional points for individual match victories, map wins or regular season standings unless those results directly determine final placement.
League Placements
For league competitions, points are awarded based on final season placement rather than regular season standings. For example, a team that finishes first in the regular season but loses in the Grand Final will receive points for 2nd Place, not 1st Place. This ensures all teams are ranked based on their final competitive result.
Points Table
| Placement | S-Tier | A-Tier | B-Tier | C-Tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1st Place | 1000 | 600 | 300 | 150 |
| 2nd Place | 750 | 300 | 150 | 75 |
| 3rd Place | 500 | 150 | 75 | 50 |
| 4th Place | 250 | 75 | 50 | 25 |
| 5-8th Place | 100 | 50 | 25 | 10 |
Event Tiers
VRTV categorises leagues and tournaments into tiers based on their competitive significance within the VR esports ecosystem. Event tiers determine how many VRTV Points are awarded to participating teams.
S-Tier Events
S-Tier events represent the highest level of competition within a title. These competitions feature the strongest teams, significant community recognition and a proven history of competitive excellence.Typical characteristics include:
• The premier league or championship for a title
• The strongest available field of teams
• High competitive standards
• Significant community impact
• Large-scale LAN or international competitionExamples may include VRML Championship divisions and major international LAN events.
A-Tier Events
A-Tier events are highly competitive leagues and tournaments that sit just below the premier level.Typical characteristics include:
• Established competitive history
• Strong participation from top teams
• Consistent seasonal structure
• Recognised importance within the communityExamples may include major independent leagues and established third-party tournaments.
B-Tier Events
B-Tier events represent growing competitive opportunities that contribute to the wider esports ecosystem.Typical characteristics include:
• Regional tournaments
• Community-run leagues
• Emerging competitive circuits
• Smaller seasonal competitions
C-Tier Events
C-Tier events are grassroots competitions designed to encourage participation and growth within the scene.Typical characteristics include:
• Small community tournaments
• Local competitions
• Experimental formats
• Entry-level competitive eventsWhile these events award fewer VRTV Points, they remain an important part of the competitive ecosystem and provide opportunities for teams to establish themselves.
Result Decay
To ensure the VRTV Rankings accurately reflect the current competitive landscape, older results gradually lose value over time through a system known as decay.Without decay, teams could remain highly ranked based on achievements from years ago, even if they are no longer actively competing or performing at a high level. Decay ensures that recent results have a greater impact on the rankings than historic achievements.
Decay Schedule
| Result Age | Point Value |
|---|---|
| Current Season | 100% |
| Previous Season | 75% |
| Two Seasons Old | 50% |
| Three Seasons Old | 25% |
| Older Results | None |
LAN Bonus
LAN events represent some of the most challenging competitions in VR esports. Unlike online play, LAN tournaments require teams to perform in a live environment, often against the strongest available opposition and under increased competitive pressure. To recognise the significance of these events, VRTV awards additional points for LAN participation and success.
LAN Bonus Points
| Achievement | Bonus Points |
|---|---|
| LAN Attendance | +25 |
| Top 4 Finish | +50 |
| Grand Final Appearance | +100 |
| LAN Champion | +250 |
Why LAN Events Matter
LAN events are a showcase of the highest level of VR esports competition. These tournaments often bring together elite teams from multiple regions and provide a unique competitive environment that cannot be replicated online. The LAN Bonus is designed to reward teams that succeed on the biggest stages while recognising the commitment required to attend and compete in person.
